SEALING SOLUTIONS
BAFFLE SEALS
For an effective seal between the casing and the longitudinal baffles of heat exchangers, Kempchen has developed and patented the T4 Profile or Kempchen Profile.
These are specially constructed metal sheets in a “U” shape, which adapt naturally (self-sealing) to the casing of the heat exchanger.
Characteristics
- The T4 Profile is particularly efficient when there is a small thermal differential between the temperatures on both sides of the baffle. In this case, a small loss of tightness between the casing and the baffle can cause a significant loss of performance of the exchanger, which is prevented by installing the T4 Profile
- The material is usually AISI-316 Ti (1.4571).
- To position and install this element in the exchanger, no screws, holes or additional mechanical fixing are needed, which represents a significant time saving.
The T4 profile is not completely watertight, especially when working with gases. However, its use is still advantageous compared to traditional clamping systems.
The metal material ensures correct operation in a wide range of temperatures. When a very high sealing is required, we recommend placing thin PTFE sheets between the two sheets (please consult us).
Models and their characteristics
The T4 profile sheets are joined by micro-welds, forming a single unit that can be supplied in any requested length.
However, to avoid difficulties in transport, the length should not exceed 6 m. We can manufacture lengths exactly (to the millimetre), thus avoiding problematic cuts of the profiles during assembly.

Dimensions
The T4 profile is basically defined by the width of the sheets and the thickness of the baffle to be sealed.
The width of the sheets is usually 20 mm or 30 mm and the thickness of the baffle varies between 5 mm and 25 mm:
